Today, January 1, 2008, marks the start of the great “Baby Boom” generation retirement wave. Starting now, and for the next 20 years, 80 million Americans will reach retirement age. This “Silver Tsunami” will have a tremendous impact on society. Where’s the plan?
It appears that no one has a plan, either individually or societally, to manage this great demographic shift. The boomers have spent their lives consuming, ignoring savings, and are unprepared for retirement. The nation, has placed the economy into a dangerous position, and will be unable to meet the coming demands of the boomers. No one has a plan, beyond political lip service, for how to properly deal with the new reality.
