How to use the Retirement Blog
Blogs are a wonderful tool for sharing information, not only for the author, but for the reader as well. Blogs are great for interacting, you can post comments, ask questions, search for information, and engage with people from all over the world. Even though blogs are designed, to make finding information easier, blogs can still be confusing.
Here are some helpful tips on using blogs:
RSS feeds - Whenever you see the RSS logo
on a blog, it means you can subscribe to the blog, and receive alerts when a new article is posted. RSS eliminates the need to check the blog too see if a new article has been posted. You will need to have an RSS feed reader in order to subscribe and read the blog feed. Both Yahoo mail and Gmail have RSS feed reading capabilities built into them. Also, the Firefox web browser, can be used to subscribe to blogs. To learn more, Wikipedia, has an article on RSS. An RSS feed eliminates the need for email newsletters.
Search - There are over 100 articles on the Green Retirement Blog, containing all sorts of information, links, and advice. The best way to find specific information of interest is to use the search box. The search box is located near the top of the blog page. Use it like you would a search engine, just type in the word or phrase you are interested in and click the button, up pops a page that lists all the articles on this site that contains your search word or phrase.
Categories - Articles are posted to categories depending on their subject. So for instance, an article about retiring in San Francisco, would appear in the category “Places to Retire”. An article about a change in Social Security would appear in “Retirement News”. Clicking on the category that interests you, will bring up a page filled with articles, written for that specific category.
Archives - This is where you can find all the articles written in that specific month and year.
Pages - Such as this one “About” are permanent, visible and easily accessible, and general in nature or deal with a specific subject.
Comments - This is one of the best features of a blog. Comments give you the ability to respond directly to the article author, asks questions, and share information. Below each blog article, you can either read other people’s comments, or leave your own. You will have to register on the blog in order to leave a comment. This is required in order to eliminate spam, monitor the comments for appropriateness, and to avoid arguments in the community.
