Is Jim Cramer a secret Keynsian? Could he even be accused of being an anti-war progressive green? Will I have to re-think my opinion of him being nothing more than a Wall Street shill? After his July 27, 2009 Mad Money show, under the guise of promoting a “Capitalist Manifesto”, Jim Cramer put forth an 8 point plan for creating jobs in America.
After rightly criticizing the Obama stimulus plan for being too weak to produce a significant number of jobs, Jim Cramer went on to propose a “solar panel on every roof”, closing down military bases in Europe and Japan, and a nationwide network of high-speed trains. Read more about his 8 point plan here.
Basically, Jim Cramer was channelling FDR and Keynes, and accused Obama of acting like Herbert Hoover. Cramer, love him or hate him, is no bleeding heart liberal. In the same plan he also proposes anti-progressive ideas such as a natural gas pipeline, getting rid of union card-check, and subsidizing private health insurance.
However, Jim Cramer ultimately understands what FDR and Keynes understood, economic recovery and a secular bull market on Wall Street will not be possible with high unemployment, and Obama’s stimulus plan will not do enough to reduce unemployment.
Now if he would only expose Wall Street’s dirty little secret, that millions of working Americans are kept as wage slaves, so that Wall Street can keep earning high fees and commissions from their labor.
