A new survey by AARP has found that 60% of Americans have decided to delay their retirement plans. The number of Americans delaying their retirements has more than doubled, from earlier this year, when AARP conducted a similiar survey. I have written extensively on the reasons why delaying retirement may not be the wisest choice.
The biggest reason not to delay retirement, is that you may end up poorer at the end of the recession, even with continued retirement contributions. In “Retire in a Recession“, I give an example of two co-workers, and show how the worker who chose retirement had more money at the end of a recession, as opposed to the worker who chose to delay his retirement.
To find all articles on the Green Retirement Blog concerning this issue, go to the search box on the upper left side of the blog, and type in “Recession”. There are nine separate articles on the retirement blog that have a lot of information and advice. Many of these retirement articles about recession and delaying retirement, are from the beginning of 2008, the advice has not changed.
If you have any questions regarding the articles, you can always ask a question in the comment box, and I will answer them. Also, if you haven’t been to the Green Retirement Website, you are most probably not aware that you can get a Free Retirement Analysis. And there is a Can I Retire Now Calculator as well.
