This is a funny retirement story (unless your retirement portfolio contains American Airlines stock), about the impact of a sudden mass retirement of American Airlines Pilots. On Thursday of this past week, 143 American Airlines pilots retired, all on the same day. The mass retiring was caused, because the pilots feared that their retirement benefits, would be reduced if they kept working.

Sudden CEO retirements can cause company stock prices to drop, as investors worry whether it is an indication of trouble, but this is the first time I’ve heard of rank and file employee retirements negatively affecting a company’s stock price.
