Better something than nothing, for 20 million low income retired Americans, as the Senate included them in their Economic Aid package. Hooray to the Senators who fought to have the elderly and disabled veterans included in the bill. To not have included the elderly, and disabled veterans at a time when the nation is at war, would have been a mark of shame on our country.
The question is how much relief will a one time $300 check bring? With food and health costs soaring, the benefit from this small one time tax rebate scheme, will quickly evaporate. A month or two down the road, retired Americans, will be facing the same crises.
Economic justice insists that everyone be included in a rebate proposal, but the nation would be better served, if our politicians would meaningfully tackle the issues of rising health care and food costs. The entire country, as well as American retirees, would be greatly stimulated if that were to occur. In the meantime, enjoy your $300 check, you may want to invest it in dry bulk food goods.
