Only 29 percent of American workers, surveyed by the Employee Benefit Research Institute, are confident that they will have a financially secure retirement. Down from 41 percent a year ago, marking the largest one year drop, in the surveys 18 year history. Retirement confidence has collapsed.

The survey also showed that 47 percent of American workers, during the previous year, had tried to calculate how much savings they will need for retirement.
