Senate Retirements

January 15th, 2010 · No Comments

A small number of U.S. Senators have announced their plans to retire over the past few weeks   While the main stream media has made a semi-big deal out of a few retiring senators, and how it will effect the 2010 elections, the Early Retirement Blog has ignored the story – until today.

Retiring Senator Dodd, Democrat of Conneticutt, is reported to be considering abandoning the independent Consumer Financial Protection Agency legislation pending before his committee.

Even though the Consumer Financial Protection Agency is largely a symbolic reaction to the economic collapse, in theory it is supposed to protect consumers, in practice it has already been watered down to meaninglessness.

And as I have written on this blog, Representative Barney Frank has assured the financial services industry that they will continue to be able to rape your retirements, it is still appalling that Wall Street has been able to defeat the CFPA.

The story of Senator Dodd’s abandonment of the CFPA, is the same bogus story the American people are being fed regarding health care reform.   Republicans and a few conservative Democrats, are denying the 60 votes needed to prevent a filibuster and pass the bill.

The truth is that the difference between a Democrat politician, and a Republican politician, is the difference between a whore and a prostitute.

Both political parties are in bed with the banking industry.  Senators and representatives are paid by Wall Street, both while they are in office and especially after they retire, to help pass legislation that benefits the industry.

Retirement is when senators and representatives collect their bonuses from the banking industry, for being such good boys and girls while they were in congress, usually by becoming highly paid lobbyists for the same industry they were supposed to regulate on behalf of the American people.

There is not one U.S. Senator who deserves to be re-elected, they have all let the American people down, and should all join Senator Dodd in retirement.
