One of the reasons why I believe your retirement will have a positive impact on the environment, besides reducing your consumption, is that once you are retired you will have time to save the planet. With retirement, the excuse of “I’m working and don’t have the time to get involved”, is no longer true.
And if saving the planet is one of your priorities, retirement gives you the opportunity, to focus your time in helping the environment. An example of one person to follow is - Alfred “Fred” Padula. After retiring from the University of Southern Maine, where Mr. Padula taught history, he devoted his time, money and energy to saving the environment. The “Portland Press Herald” has printed a feature on Mr. Padula and his environmental efforts.
Retirement can have a positive impact in many areas of society, from the environment to democracy, and I will be on the look-out for more examples of how people in retirement are saving the planet.
